As I do at the end of every month, today I’m sharing five things—some Tolkien-related and others not—that I’ve been enjoying this month: a New Silmarillion Audiobook, Tolkien and A.I., The Rings of Power Design, and More
I do want to go to that amusement park. What would you call it? Tolkien Times? Middle-Earth Journey? There and Back Again?
I can see the ads now. Start your day with breakfast at Bilbo’s Bag End Kitchen! Join your Fellowship for a thrilling journey through the Mines of Moria, then come back for second breakfast!
Tolkien’s distrust and dislike of machines can be felt in his writing, but I have to wonder how much of the technology of modern times he would have wanted to live without. He was a professor after all, not a farmer. I like the idea of a world with less noise and more green, but I also like the iPhone I’m using to write this comment. Would Tolkien have enjoyed a cell phone, with the internet at his fingertips?
What I’ve enjoyed this month: White Cat, Black Dog, a book of eerie, reimagined fairy-tales by Kelly Link
Yeah, it's so fascinating to try to extrapolate someone's views about their time into the present age, especially someone like Tolkien. It surely wouldn't be a blanket acceptance or rejection of everything technological (he drove cars, for instance), but what would the particulars look like? And how might it have influenced or shown up in his work?
I'll have to check that book out: sounds interesting!
Thanks, Jason! Yeah, this month I was especially excited about them all. Thinking about the rides got me really excited for that kind of idea! Great prompt
Man, that is a SWEET candle! Andy Serkis’s role in Andor reminded me how incredible he is and this Silmarillion news makes me want to get all the audiobooks and give them a listen. I’m sure he does brilliantly!
Thank you so much for the link! I really appreciate it.
You're welcome! Glad to share it again!

Just saw that I missed this comment! Haha, I like Tolkien Times. What about Arda Adventure?
I can hear the ad too lol. It's just selling itself at this point!
Arda Adventure is excellent!
Your Middle-earth theme park ideas 🤩 Take all my money!!!!
hahaha, it's probably good for my wallet that something like that doesn't already exist!

You're welcome, Elle! I found the conversation fascinating and knew many of my readers would agree!
Great 5 this week. Especially enjoyed reading Rev. Tom about AI and about the "other White Wizard" cuts to ROTK. And your LOTR rides sound epic.

I know, I need one haha! And yes, he was simply amazing in Andor. I'm eyeing the whole set myself!
I don’t even like amusement parks or rides, but I would 100% go to this one. I’d take some dramamine & get on that barrel-ride - “For Frodo!!!”
