Thank you for writing it and getting me to dust off my copy! It had been too long (maybe since college, when I bought that copy for a class). I'm tempted to make it a January tradition!
I discovered the Letters of Tolkien in a bookstore in Newport, Oregon. I found myself laughing out loud in the bookstore and left with the book. His humor is sometimes subtle in his books. Enjoyed see that side of him in the letters.
I love that story and that it was his voice and humor that convinced you you needed to leave with the book haha. Agreed, loving seeing a different side to him through his correspondences.
Yay! Great to see the Tolkien Oral History project shared - hope lots of folks join in :) (And thanks for the shoutout!)
Yes! I loved the idea and had to share it! Now I just need to do it myself... haha. And you're welcome! Thanks again for bringing it to my attention
Thank you for sharing the Gawain newsletter, and I'm so very delighted you were inspired to return to Tolkien's wonderful translation!
