Happy Tolkien Reading Day!
What is Tolkien Reading Day, you may ask? Well, according to the Tolkien Reading Day page on the Tolkien Society website:
Tolkien Reading Day is held on the 25th of March each year.
It has been organised by the Tolkien Society since 2003 to encourage fans to celebrate and promote the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien by reading favourite passages.
Why March 25th? Because that is the day in Middle-earth history that the One Ring was destroyed and the Dark Lord Sauron was defeated.1
In order to celebrate Tolkien Reading Day, I’m giving away a whole bunch of Tolkien’s works!
That’s right, dear readers, it’s time for another Jokien with Tolkien giveaway!
This year, I’m trying to encourage folks to venture further into Tolkien’s catalogue of writings by giving away a The Collected Poems of J.R.R. Tolkien Box Set, a The Tolkien Treasury Box Set, and a copy of Tales From The Perilous Realm.
The Prizes
Second Prize: one copy of Tales From the Perilous Realm
First Prize: one copy of The Tolkien Treasury Box Set
GRAND Prize: one copy of The Collected Poems of J.R.R. Tolkien Box Set
Tales From the Perilous Realm contains five of Tolkien’s classic ‘fairie’ tales in the vein of ‘The Hobbit’: Roverandom (a tale of an enchanted toy dog), Farmer Giles of Ham (the unlikely hero who must face a dragon), The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (collected verse of Tom's many adventures with hobbits, princesses, dwarves and trolls), Leaf by Niggle (a painter Niggle sets out to paint the perfect tree), and Smith of Wootton Major (an adventure in the Land of Faery featuring the Great Cake of the Feast of Good Children).
The Tolkien Treasury Box Set collects four of these stories (Roverandom, Farmer Giles of Ham, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, and Smith of Wooton Major) into a lovely gift set.
The Collected Poems of J.R.R. Tolkien Box Set—this set presents almost 200 works of poetry by Tolkien across three gorgeous volumes, including more than 60 poems that had never before been seen. Together with critical commentary on the author and his work and packaged in a wonderful set, this collection is our grand prize!

I’m going to write about the significance of this date in the next few weeks for the newsletter, I think. It’s the date that the Annunciation is celebrated in the Catholic Church, as well as the date that was traditionally considered the death of Christ, the creation of Adam; also, the fall of Lucifer, the passing of Israel through the Red Sea and the immolation of Isaac. Busy (and significant) day! Via https://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01542a.htm
I didn't know JRR was such an enterprising poet!
Thank you for this, and happy Tolkien reading day!!
