As for the search for Gollum and RoP 2, I wish they'd drop those and let them die.
I really wish that American Cinema could learn to be creative again. I miss the old days when studios took risks and made movies that might flop. If they hadn't taken chances, there wouldn't be cult classics like The Little Shop of Horrors, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Flash Gordon, or any of the many Atomic Age picture Serials.
I'm tired of the 120th remakes of Star Wars and Star Trek, and I'm tired of the bastardization of Tolkien or CS Lewis.
I crave originality, but we'll never get that again because movies are made to be Oscar contenders, and the qualifications for being considered for the Oscars are woke as hell.
Well to be fair, Season 2 of the Rings of Power looks to be weaving the threads from the first season into the story (with Annatar, Eregion and Celebrimbor, etc.). But even War of the Rohirrim is taking what Tolkien outlined and adding to it. Every adaptation has to change things (e.g. elves at Helm's Deep): the choice isn't *whether* to change anything so much as *what* to change.
Not sure yet how Hunt for Gollum will factor into this yet with so few details, but we'll see.
