💎 Tolkien Treasures #016: December 2024
War of the Rohirrim rides to theaters, a new Jokien with Tolkien e-book, and more!
Hello all! Mae govannen!
In today’s newsletter I share a roundup of recent Tolkien Treasures,1 or Tolkien-related content that I’m currently enjoying and want to share with you all. Let's get right to it!
Tolkien Treasures
1. War of the Rohirrim is now in theaters!
This week Middle-earth returns to the Big Screen with the release of The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim! I’m looking forward to seeing it and will be sure to pass on my thoughts once I have. Who else is excited??
2. ‘Wounds That Cannot Be Wholly Cured’ Now Available on Amazon
In addition to my first collection of essays and my guide ‘Exploring the Lore of Middle-earth,’ I’ve added my latest e-book to the Kindle store: ‘Wounds That Cannot Be Wholly Cured.’ This is an short booklet I wrote when in the wake of my brother’s passing I returned to Tolkien and found new lessons and comforts in the midst of grief and loss.
Many or most of you have already read it. For those who have, especially if it resonated with you, would you mind leaving a review on Amazon? It helps people find the book and know what to expect. Thanks!
3. The New York Times Names ‘The Mythmakers’ a best illustrated book of 2024
I highlighted this graphic novel biographical study of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis’ friendship in my 2024 Tolkien Gift Guide and am ecstatic to see that The New York Times has included it in its list of Best Children’s Books of 2024.
It’s out of stock most everywhere, but you can backorder it from Bookshop.org or get it for Kindle (it’s such a lovely physical book though: if you get it for Kindle, get it in hardcover too!)
4. Tolkien 2025 Calendar
Already starting to look ahead and plan the coming year? Check out the 2025 Tolkien Calendar, which features 13 pieces of artwork from artist John Howe and is under $15!
5. The Fellowship of the Ring audiobook narrated by Andy Serkis
I’ve been slowly listening to Andy Serkis’ version of The Fellowship of the Ring and cherishing every second of it (though I’m not a fan at all of the Rings of Power cover…and this is from someone who really likes Rings of Power!). I’ve almost finished Fellowship and will be continuing on with The Two Towers. If you’re looking for a fresh way to experience The Lord of the Rings, this might be it!
There we have it: my Tolkien Treasures for December!
What have you been enjoying lately (or will enjoy soon) that is Tolkien-related? Let me know in the comments!
Namárië, friends. Go towards goodness!

I asked my husband to get Mythmakers for me for Christmas, and I’m pretty sure he did!
I found The Mythmakers at my local Barnes & Noble a couple of weeks ago. (So, Tolkien fans, perhaps check your local physical bookstore.) It’s a compellingly presented biography with excursions into genre-study. I really like it. (I’ve found a few typos, though! A failure of editors there.)
